The recall is due to a potential shock hazard. If the heating coil at the bottom of the pot is heated while not immersed in liquid, the coil becomes damaged. If a grounded user subsequently stirs the liquid in the pot using a metal article, they could receive a potentially severe electrical shock.

Consumers should stop using the hot pots immediately. Those who purchased the pot from a dealer or Nevco should return the unit to Nevco at Page & Schuyler Avenues, Lyndhurst, N.J. 07071, with a statement of where it was purchased and the purchase price for a refund including postage. Consumers who do not have the box or are unsure if their pot is a Nevco model should contact their dealer or Nevco to confirm eligibility. If the pot is not a Nevco brand but matches the description, consumers are urged to discontinue use and notify the CPSC of the importer or distributor's name.
