The pots were designed to melt scented wax in a ceramic cup and were sold in gift and novelty shops nationwide from April 2002 through April 2008 for between $17 and $25. The hazard exists because the simmer pots have wire connections that can become loose, posing a risk of fire and electric shock to consumers. There have been 161 reports of discolored cords, loose wires, and wires separating from the pot. No injuries have been reported.
