Plain-English summary
Suunto Oy of Finland is recalling approximately 1,300 scuba high-pressure air hoses sold in the United States. The black rubber hoses, which feature silver fittings and are marked with the batch code "1812" and "5000 PSIG PRESSURE TESTED - MADE IN THE U.S.A," are used with submersible pressure gauges and dive computers. The recall was initiated because the hoses may leak or rupture, leading to a loss of breathing gas that poses a drowning hazard to users.
The affected hoses were sold separately or as components of specific Suunto products, including the Cobra, Cobra 3, and SM-36 model pressure gauges and gauge combos, as well as the Vyper and Zoop model dive computers or analog pressure gauges. These items were sold through authorized Suunto Dive dealers nationwide from November 2012 to July 2013. Prices ranged from $85 for the hose alone to $900 when sold as part of a dive computer system.
Consumers should stop using these products immediately. To obtain a free replacement hose, consumers should bring the hose, pressure gauge, and dive computer to the nearest authorized Suunto Dive dealer or Suunto Authorized Service Center. Alternatively, consumers can use the Suunto Online Service Request at www.suunto.com/servicerequest to have the product picked up and delivered for the hose change. For more information, consumers can contact Suunto Support toll-free at (855) 258-0900 or email [email protected].
