Kichler Aztec Chandeliers Recalled for Falling Hazard

Kichler Lighting is recalling Aztec chandeliers sold at Lowe's because the fixture loop can fail, causing the light to fall from the ceiling.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where the chandelier can fall and injure bystanders, but no injuries have been reported, fitting the criteria for a High severity score.

Plain-English summary

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Kichler Lighting are recalling Aztec nine-light chandeliers sold under the PORTFOLIO brand name. The recall involves approximately 48,900 units sold exclusively at Lowe's stores nationwide and at www.lowes.com from July 2006 through August 2011 for about $240. The chandeliers are metal with an olde bronze finish, measure about 31-inches wide and 31-inches high, and feature etched amber glass shades with a decorative faux marble ball in the center. The model number 34330 is printed on a sticker located inside the ceiling canopy at the top of the chandelier.

The recall is due to a hazard where the chandelier's fixture loop, which connects the hanging chain to the lamp, can fail during use. This failure can cause the chandelier to fall from the ceiling, posing a risk of injury to bystanders. Kichler Lighting has received six reports of the chandeliers falling from the ceiling. No injuries have been reported, but approximately $6,000 in property damage has been reported.

Consumers should prevent people from going into the immediate area under the chandeliers and contact Kichler for information on how to obtain a free repair kit or replacement for chandeliers that have fallen. Kichler Lighting's Home Center Division can be reached at (800) 554-6504 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online at www.kichler.com by clicking on "Aztec" and then on "Model No. 34330 Safety Information".
