Plain-English summary

Conair Corp. is recalling approximately 291,000 BabylissPro 052 Series Professional Compact Hair Dryers. The affected units were sold under various brand names, including Babyliss® Pro Mighty Mini, Babyliss® Pro Nano Titanium(TM), Babyliss® Pro Porcelain Ceramic, BabylissPro TT® Tourmaline, and BabylissPro TT® Tourmaline Titanium. These hair dryers were sold at professional salons and various online retailers from January 2006 to April 2010 for between $20 and $30.

The recall is due to a laceration hazard. The spinning fan within the hair dryer can break apart and strike the plastic shell, causing the plastic to shatter. Conair has received 16 reports of the fan breaking and the shell shattering. The company has also received reports of the hair dryers sparking and smoking. One person sought medical attention for a laceration to the hand, and seven people reported minor cuts.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled hair dryers. They should contact Conair at 800-687-6916 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or visit www.babylissus.com/recall052 to receive a free replacement hair dryer.
