Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has been reported (two minor burns), fitting the High severity criteria for products with reported injuries but no severe or life-threatening outcomes.
Plain-English summary
Conair Corp. is recalling the Lysol Steam Cleaning Mop, model numbers SM10L and SM10LR, due to burn and laceration hazards. The recall involves approximately 162,000 units sold nationwide in department, drug, hardware, and home improvement stores, as well as online, from September 2006 through September 2009 for about $40 each. The model number is printed on the bottom of the mop under the microfiber cloth.
The hazard exists because hot water mixed with Lysol can forcefully spurt out and rupture the housing unit. This poses a burn hazard from the hot water and a laceration hazard from the broken housing unit. Conair has received 14 reports of hot water forcefully spilling out of the water reservoir compartment, including two minor burn injuries to consumers who sought medical attention.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mop and contact Conair to receive a full refund. For additional information, consumers can contact Conair at (800) 687-6916 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit the firm's website at www.conair.com/recallmop.
