Tristar Products Inc. is recalling approximately 5,000 units of the Steam Buggy Deluxe steam cleaner. The recalled product is a blue plastic device measuring about 12 inches long and 8 inches high, featuring a 5.5-foot steam hose and various cleaning attachments. This recall specifically covers the revised design units sold by HSN LLP (Home Shopping Network) from June 2002 through September 2002 for about $129, as well as replacement units shipped to consumers between April and September 2002. It does not include units from an earlier recall in March 2002.
The recall is due to a hazard where hot water and steam can escape from the steam cleaner's handle and inner hose. This poses a burn hazard to consumers. The firm has received about 20 reports of hot water and steam escaping from the device, including eight reports of scald injuries to the hands and arms.
Consumers who experience a burst hose should stop using the steam cleaner immediately. They should contact Tristar customer service at (973) 287-5100 between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Saturday, to arrange for a replacement or refund.
