Dorel Juvenile Group is recalling approximately 71,000 Eddie Bauer Soothe & Sway portable play yards in the United States and 5,600 in Canada. The recall involves models 05046 (all units) and 05044 manufactured before December 1, 2008. These products were sold at Target, Sears, and Burlington Coat Factory stores, as well as through Internet retailers, from January 2008 through May 2009 for approximately $150.

The hazard exists because the play yard's rocking bassinet attachment can tilt even when secured in the non-rocking mode or fail to return to a level surface in rocking mode. This tilting can cause an infant to roll to the corner or side of the bassinet, where they may become wedged or pressed against the side or bottom, posing a risk of suffocation or positional asphyxiation. The firm and the CPSC have received 10 reports of infants rolling to one side, including 6 instances where faces were pressed against the bassinet. One child was reportedly turning purple and out of breath when discovered, though no injuries have been officially reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the bassinet attachment of the play yard. They can continue using the play yard itself.
