Dorel Recalls Eddie Bauer Rocking Wood Bassinets Due to Suffocation Hazard

These products feature a dark brown wooden headboard and footboard, a cotton bassinet in various colors and patterns, and a dial at the base of the footboard that controls the rocking motion. The model number is located under the mattress, on the top surface of the mattress support board, or on the wash and care label.

The recall is due to a hazard where the bottom locking mechanism can fail to lock properly if a spring is not installed. This failure allows the bassinet to tip to one side, causing infants to roll to the side of the bassinet, which poses a suffocation hazard. Dorel has received 17 reports of incidents involving infants, primarily younger than three months old. In two of these incidents, infants were reported to have had breathing difficulties after rolling into the side of their bassinets.

The recalled bassinets were sold at Target, Toys R Us, and Sears stores nationwide, as well as online at eBay and other websites, from December 2007 through January 2011 for about $150. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bassinets and contact Dorel to obtain a free repair kit, which includes a spring and new instructions for assembly.
