Dorel Juvenile Group is recalling approximately 250,000 Safety 1st Tubside Bath Seats, model number 44301. The seats are white and blue with a swivel seat and elbow cushion, intended for children aged 5 to 10 months. They were sold at discount department and mass merchants from December 2003 through August 2004 for about $20.
The recall is issued because the bath seats are not intended for use with certain non-traditional or sunken bathtubs. In these specific tub types, the seat can break or tip over, causing a child to fall into the water. Dorel Juvenile Group has received nine reports of breakage due to use in non-traditional or sunken bathtubs, as well as 67 other reports of breakage due to handling, assembly, or unknown reasons. One report indicated a child bumped his forehead when a seat tipped over in a non-traditional tub, resulting in a bruise.
Consumers should check the dimensions of their bathtubs. If they have a non-traditional or sunken bathtub outside the specified dimensions, or if they have a broken unit, they should immediately stop using the seat.
