Progress Lighting Recalls Pendant Fixtures That May Fall From Ceiling

Progress Lighting is recalling about 6,000 pendant-style ceiling-mounted light fixtures because the ceiling-mount assembly can fail, causing the light to fall and pose an impact hazard.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (falling fixture) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the High severity criteria.

Plain-English summary

Progress Lighting is recalling about 6,000 units of pendant-style ceiling-mounted indoor light fixtures. The recall involves specific models including P3601-09, P3602-09, P3603-09, P3603-09EXP, P3685-09, P3685-09EXP, P4260-09, P4261-09, P4261-09EXP, and P4262-09. These fixtures feature frosted white glass and a brushed aluminum finish, with the product number located inside the canopy flush with the ceiling.

The recall is being issued because the ceiling-mount assembly that supports the light fixture can fail. This failure can cause the fixture to unexpectedly fall from the ceiling, posing an impact hazard to consumers. Progress Lighting has received three reports of incidents, including one report of a fixture falling from the ceiling, but no injuries have been reported.

The affected fixtures were sold by electrical/lighting distributors and select Home Depot and Expo Design Centers nationwide from January 2005 through May 2008 for between $180 and $1,000. Consumers should call 866-418-5543 to obtain a free repair kit and a certificate for a free installation of the repair kit by an electrician.
