Plain-English summary
Progress Lighting, of Greenville, S.C., is recalling about 7,500 International Series indoor ceiling light fixtures. The recall involves fixtures with metal hardware and frosted white glass that use incandescent or fluorescent bulbs. The products were sold under the Progress Lighting and Thomasville Lighting brand names. The model numbers involved are P2854-09EBWB, P3443-09, P4263-09, P2855-09EBWB, P3444-09, P4264-09, P2856-09EBWB, P3445-09, P4265-09, P2859-09EBWB, P3789-09, P4265-09EXP, P2860-09EBWB, P3790-09, P2861-09EBWB, and P3791-09. The packaging and the fixture's canopy are marked "Made in/Hecho en/Fabrique aux China" and the model number.
The hazard is that a cable supporting the light fixture from the ceiling can fail, causing the fixture to fall and injure nearby consumers. Progress Lighting has received five reports of fixtures falling, including one incident where two consumers suffered bruises. The fixtures were sold nationwide through electrical/lighting distributors and The Home Depot stores from January 2005 through March 2008 for between $290 and $1,150.
Consumers who have either Progress Lighting's or Thomasville Lighting's recalled ceiling lights should carefully remove any of the glass and contact Progress Lighting to schedule a free inspection and replacement. For more information, contact Progress Lighting toll-free at (877) 369-4548 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit the firm's website at www.progresslighting.com.
