Stanley 5K Series Door Handle Locks Recalled for Entrapment Hazard

Stanley Security Solutions Inc. is recalling approximately 25,000 Keyed 5K Series Door Handle Locks. The recalled units are 5K Light/Medium Duty Lever Series door handle locks with a brass or stainless steel finish and the word "BEST" embossed below the keyhole on the elongated handle. These locks were sold at locksmiths, hardware, and building supply stores nationwide from November 2005 through September 2006 for between $65 and $115.

The locks can fail, preventing the door from being unlocked from the inside. This failure poses an entrapment hazard that could prevent occupants from vacating a location in an emergency. Stanley Security Solutions has received three reports of the locks failing, but no entrapments have been reported.
