Plain-English summary
Makita U.S.A. Inc. is recalling approximately 1,500 Makita GA7011C 7-inch angle grinders. The recall involves grinders sold at industrial suppliers and home centers from about July 2005 through September 2005 for about $179. The grinders have a blue housing with "Makita" in large white letters, and the model and serial numbers are located on a silver nameplate above the trigger switch.
The hazard exists because the guards on some of these angle grinders will not fully cover a hubbed grinding wheel. If a hubbed grinding wheel comes apart during use, it could hit the user, possibly causing serious personal injury. Makita has not received any reports of incidents or injury related to this defect.
Consumers with these angle grinders should stop using them with a hubbed grinding wheel immediately and contact Makita to arrange for a free replacement of the guard. Known purchasers were sent direct mail notification of this recall. For more information, consumers can call Makita toll-free at (866) 838-5008 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or visit www.makitatools.com.
