Greenheck Recalls Ventilation Units Due to Potential Bolt Failure Hazard

Greenheck Fan Corp. is recalling approximately 4,200 Sidewall, Rooftop, and Centrifugal Inline ventilation units. The recall is due to LUX 3/8-inch spinlock bolts that may not have been properly heat treated. These bolts can break during lifting for rooftop installation or after installation, which could cause the unit or components to fall and injure bystanders.

The affected units were built between August 11, 2004, and April 29, 2005. They contain 16-thread-per-inch 3/8-inch by ¾-inch spinlock bolts with LUX head markings. Affected model numbers include RBU, RBUMO, RDU, RB/R, SB/S, and BSU 360-420 with serial numbers ranging from 04HXXXXX through 05DXXXXX. The model and serial numbers are located on the metal identification plate on the units.

Greenheck is aware of 309 LUX bolts that have failed in the field, but there are no reports of ventilation units falling or any injuries. The units were sold through independent sales representatives and original equipment manufacturers from August 2004 through July 2005. Affected sales representatives and original equipment manufacturers are being contacted directly. LUX spinlock bolts in affected units will be replaced at no cost to the end user.
