Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (glass shattering) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria in the rubric.

Plain-English summary

Sauder Woodworking Co. is recalling certain furniture hutch models (9386, 9549, and 9509) that were sold at select Office Depot stores from October 2004 through November 2004. These units include 40-watt incandescent mini spot-light bulbs manufactured by Comtrad, Division of Waljon Ltd. The recall involves approximately 22,600 units.

The recall is being issued because some of the bulbs have imploded or broken apart within the first several minutes after being illuminated. This failure creates a laceration hazard from broken glass particles. There have been 12 reports of bulb failures, but no injuries have been reported.

Consumers who purchased these specific hutch models should stop using the included light bulbs immediately. The retailer has a record of all purchasers and will contact them directly to provide replacement light bulbs and instructions to discard the originally supplied bulbs. Consumers can also contact Sauder Customer Service at (800) 523-3987 or visit www.sauder.com for assistance.
