Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Plain-English summary

K'NEX Industries Inc. is recalling approximately 14,000 units of the "Mud Boggers" and "Street Shredders" Pump Up Racers. The recalled toy cars were sold at Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, and Target stores nationwide between November 2003 and December 2003 for about $10. The "Mud Bogger" model has a yellow car body, while the "Street Shredder" model has a red car body. Both models feature a date code beginning with 7803 located on the bottom of the air motor, directly under the name "K'NEX Industries Inc." The toys were manufactured in China.

The recall is being issued because the air motor in the toy cars can burst while being pumped up. When this occurs, parts of the motor or car can break off, and some of these parts may have sharp points that pose a risk of eye or laceration injuries. K'NEX has received two reports of bursting air motors, though no injuries have been reported.

Consumers should stop children from using these toy cars immediately. To obtain a remedy, consumers should contact K'NEX Industries at (800) 543-5639 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or log on to the company's website at www.knex.com to request a free replacement air motor or alternative product.
