What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where eight injuries have been reported, but no fatalities or severe injuries are documented, fitting the High severity criteria for reported injuries without critical outcomes.
Plain-English summary
Kenner Products is voluntarily recalling 176,000 Colorblaster 3-D spray art design toys, model 14290.11. The recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on January 25, 1995. The toys were sold nationally through wholesale and retail outlets between August 1994 and January 1995 for $26.99 each.
The hazard involves the toy's pump mechanism. When the toy is over-pumped, the orange pump handle and purple cap can fly off the base. This can strike the child using the toy, potentially causing facial injury or laceration. Kenner reported eight injuries to CPSC after the pump handle and cap assembly blew out of the base and struck the operator.
Consumers should stop using the affected toys immediately. The recall only affects the Colorblaster 3-D model, identifiable by its orange handle and purple cap; it does not include other Colorblaster products. Consumers can return the product to the store where it was purchased for a full refund. Alternatively, they can call Kenner toll-free at (800) 327-8264 to request a pre-paid mailing label to send the purple handle and cap to the company for a full refund.
