What this means for you

Plain-English summary
Tek Nek Toys is recalling approximately 294,000 children's riding vehicles sold nationwide from July 1998 through April 2000. The recalled models, which include the Prowler, Dodge Ram, Corvette, SPX Motorcycle, and Honda, are powered by one 6-volt battery and were manufactured before April 2000. These plastic vehicles, intended for children aged 1-1/2 to 4 years, were sold at toy stores and discount department stores for about $89.
The recall is due to a hazard where the vehicles' battery chargers or wires can overheat while the vehicles are being charged. This overheating presents fire and injury hazards to children. CPSC and Tek Nek have received 17 reports of battery chargers and wires overheating. Additionally, two consumers reported burning their hands while unplugging or charging the vehicles.
Consumers should stop using the vehicles immediately and should not charge them or allow children to use them until they have received a new charger. Consumers can contact Tek Nek at (888) 900-0155 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, to receive a free, new charger.
