Kolcraft Recalls Baby Walkers with Detachable Toy Attachments
Kolcraft is recalling about 410,000 baby walkers because flower toys on the tray can detach, exposing sharp edges that pose a laceration hazard to young children.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (sharp edges causing lacerations) where injury has been reported, but no deaths or serious injuries (such as hospitalization) are explicitly stated in the source text.
Plain-English summary
Kolcraft Enterprises, Inc. is recalling approximately 410,000 baby walkers sold under the "Tot Rider" and "Carter's" brand names. The recalled walkers are multi-colored and feature either a detachable toy bar or a detachable music center on the tray. Each tray includes two 6.5-inch stems with 3.5-inch stars on top. The specific models involved are 14303-AC, 14303-CC, 14401-OT, 14303-LB, 14303-UE, and 14304-LJ. These walkers were manufactured between December 2000 and August 2002 and sold nationwide at discount, department, and juvenile product stores from December 2000 through October 2002 for between $20 and $40.
The recall is being issued because the flower toys on the baby walker's tray can detach from the stems. When detached, the stems expose sharp edges that pose a laceration hazard to young children. Kolcraft has received 15 reports of injuries associated with these exposed sharp edges. The reported injuries to children included lacerations around the eyes, eyelids, face, and tongue.
Consumers should immediately remove the detachable toy bars or music center toy trays from these walkers. For information on receiving a replacement toy bar or music center toy tray, consumers can contact Kolcraft toll-free at (888) 695-9988 or visit the company's website at www.kolcraft.com.
