Kolcraft Ranger Strollers Recalled for Pinch Hazard
Kolcraft is recalling Ranger and Ranger Quattro strollers because lock mechanisms can break and pinch children's fingers, arms, or hands.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has been reported (one baby's arm pinched), but no deaths or serious injuries are documented, fitting the High severity criteria.
Plain-English summary
Kolcraft Enterprises Inc. is recalling approximately 25,500 Ranger and Ranger Quattro strollers. The recall involves model numbers 46720 and 46721, which were manufactured between December 1999 and June 2000. These strollers were sold at mass merchandise and juvenile products stores nationwide from January 2000 through November 2000 for about $80.
The lock mechanisms located on both sides of the stroller can break, creating a pinch-point hazard. Kolcraft has received 39 reports of the lock mechanisms breaking, including one report of a baby's arm being pinched. Strollers manufactured after June 2000 have different side-lock mechanisms and are not included in this recall.
Consumers should stop using the strollers immediately and call Kolcraft at (800) 453-7673 to receive a free repair kit. The model number is located on a sticker on the back leg frame, and the manufacture date is below the model number on the same sticker.
