Plain-English summary
Kolcraft Enterprises Inc. is recalling approximately 36,000 Contours Options three- and four-wheeled strollers in the United States and 270 in Canada. The recall involves specific model numbers starting with ZL002, ZL005, ZL008, ZL015, and ZL018, which were manufactured from January 2006 through November 2009. These strollers were sold at juvenile product specialty stores and online retailers including Amazon.com, Target.com, and ToysRUs.com for between $150 and $160.
The hazard exists because a child or consumer's finger can become caught in the opening formed when locking and unlocking the hinge mechanism used to adjust the handlebars. This presents an amputation and laceration hazard to both children and adults handling the stroller. Kolcraft and the CPSC have received five reports of injuries involving this mechanism, including three instances where children's fingertips were amputated and two instances where adults' fingers were smashed or lacerated.
Consumers should immediately stop using the affected strollers and contact Kolcraft to receive a free repair kit. For additional information, consumers can contact Kolcraft at (800) 453-7673 or visit www.kolcraft.com.
