Peg Perego USA Inc. is recalling approximately 325,000 high chairs, including the "Prima Pappa," "Roller," and "Martinelli Pappa and Nanna" models. The recall is due to a design defect where a space exists between the armrest and backrest when the seat is reclined. This gap allows a child's head or arm to become entrapped, creating a risk of suffocation or injury.

Peg Perego and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have received 51 reports of entrapment. These incidents resulted in two children suffering scratches to the head, one child having a bruised arm, and another child having a scratched arm. There have been no reports of suffocation.

The affected high chairs were sold at chain stores and independent retailers, including Babies "R" Us, Right Start, and Burlington Coat Factory, from June 1996 through October 1999 for about $180. Consumers should stop using the high chairs immediately and call Peg Perego toll-free at (877) 737-3464 to receive free replacement armrests that eliminate the hazard. Consumers should not return the high chairs to the store where they were purchased.
