Plain-English summary
Today's Kids, of Dallas, Texas, is recalling about 103,000 Music & Lights Kidaround Spinner™ toys. The recall is due to a hazard where the center column can break, causing a child to suddenly fall backward or be hit in the face by the broken column. The company has received 1,427 reports of the toy's columns breaking off, resulting in five injuries, including bumps on heads, cut faces, and split lips. Two children required stitches.
The recalled toy is a purple turntable with a green center column topped by a yellow steering wheel, intended for children 1-1/2 to 5 years old. It plays songs and has flashing lights. The toys were sold at toy and discount department stores nationwide from July 1999 through May 2000 for about $20. The packaging indicates the toy is made in China and the United States.
Consumers should take these spinning ride toys away from children immediately and discard or destroy the products. The firm is out of business and cannot be contacted, and a replacement toy is no longer available. Consumers can call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 301-595-7054) for more information.
