Miracle Recreation is recalling about 1,400 playground tire swings because the hanger clamp can fail, posing a fall hazard to children.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect in a playground product that has resulted in reported injuries, including a fractured foot and cuts requiring stitches, meeting the criteria for significant injury reports.

Plain-English summary

Miracle Recreation Equipment Co. is recalling about 1,400 playground tire swings sold nationwide from February 1995 through March 2008. The recalled products include the Kids' Choice Arch Tire Swing Sets (Model # 714-852), Kids' Choice Arch Tire Swing Extension (Model # 714-852-X), and Kids' Choice Arch Tire Swing Swivel Replacement (Model #278). These tire swings were sold to schools, parks, and municipalities for between $570 and $2,100.

The hanger clamp on the tire swing can fail, causing the tire swing to detach. This poses a fall hazard to young children and a risk of serious injury. Miracle Recreation has received three reports of injuries, including two reports of cuts requiring stitches and one report of a fractured foot.

Consumers should immediately remove the tire swing, including the swivel, chains, and tire, from the hanger clamp until a free repair kit is installed. The company has sent direct mail notices to consumers. For additional information, contact Miracle Recreation at (800) 523-4202 ext 683, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or via e-mail at [email protected].
