Ford Bronco rearview image may remain displayed after backing ends
Ford is recalling certain 2021-2022 Bronco vehicles previously repaired under recall 23V165, because the rearview camera image may still be displayed after a backing event has ended.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 3 covers risk-of-harm where injury has not yet been reported: the fault is a display behaving incorrectly rather than a loss of vehicle function, and no incidents are recorded.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2021-2022 Bronco vehicles equipped with 8-inch SYNC infotainment screens that were previously repaired incorrectly under recall number 23V165. About 35 units are potentially affected.
The rearview camera image may still be displayed after a backing event has ended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility".
NHTSA states that a rearview image that continues to be displayed after the vehicle is shifted out of reverse may distract the driver, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the SYNC module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on January 28, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall number 25C72, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
