GM diesel SUVs may have an incorrect fuel tank fitted

General Motors is recalling certain Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon diesel vehicles because the original fuel tank may have been replaced with an incorrect tank that can leak in a rollover.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 4 covers structural vehicle defects: the wrong tank compromises fuel system containment during a rollover, creating a post-crash fire risk at the moment occupants are most exposed.

Plain-English summary

General Motors, LLC is recalling certain 2021 Cadillac Escalade, 2021 and 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, and 2022 and 2024 GMC Yukon vehicles equipped with a 6-cylinder diesel engine. Twelve vehicles are potentially affected.

The original fuel tank may have been replaced with an incorrect fuel tank, which can allow fuel to leak in a rollover crash.

NHTSA states that a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

Dealers will inspect for the correct fuel tank and replace it if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on November 5, 2025. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223 or Chevrolet customer service, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
