2022 Ford Escape Software Defect May Cause Unexpected Loss of Drive Power

The HPCM software can malfunction and cause the vehicle to shift unexpectedly into neutral while driving. When this occurs, the vehicle loses drive power immediately, which significantly increases the risk of a crash or loss of vehicle control. The recall was initiated following a report received on February 28, 2025.

Ford dealers will reprogram the HPCM software free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 11, 2025.
