Ford stripped chassis gear position indicator may not display properly
Ford is recalling certain 2024 F-53 and F-59 stripped chassis vehicles because the instrument panel cluster may not properly display the transmission gear position indicator, failing FMVSS 102.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 3 covers risk-of-harm where injury has not yet been reported: the transmission itself operates normally and only its position display may fail, and the source records no incidents.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2024 F-53 Recreational Stripped Chassis and 2024 F-59 Commercial Stripped Chassis vehicles. About 761 units are potentially affected.
The instrument panel cluster may not properly display the transmission gear position indicator. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 102, "Transmission Shift Position Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect".
NHTSA states that a transmission gear position indicator that fails to illuminate can make it difficult to identify the correct transmission shift position, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the instrument panel cluster module software free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on February 12, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall number 24C32, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
