2023-2024 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon Seat Belt Fastener Recall

General Motors is recalling certain 2023-2024 Chevrolet Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon vehicles because front seat belt buckle attachment bolts may not be properly tightened, potentially affecting restraint in a crash.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a structural defect in a critical vehicle safety system affecting seat belt restraint. While the hazard presents a significant risk of injury in a crash scenario, no injuries or deaths have been reported, placing it at High rather than Severe severity.

Plain-English summary

General Motors is recalling 151 units of the 2023-2024 Chevrolet Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon vehicles due to improperly tightened front seat belt buckle attachment bolts.

The left or right front seat belt buckle attachment bolt on these vehicles may not have been tightened properly. A loose attachment bolt could fail to properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Affected owners were notified by mail on October 30, 2024. GM dealers will tighten the seat belt buckle attachment bolts free of charge. Owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 to arrange service.
