Newmar motorhomes recalled for improperly welded seat mounting plates
Newmar is recalling certain 2016–2023 motorhomes because seat pedestal mounting plates may be improperly welded, risking seat loosening or detachment and increasing injury risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect with a clear risk of harm—seat detachment can cause injury—but the source text does not report any actual injuries or illnesses. Per the rubric, risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported fall under High (score 3).
Plain-English summary
Newmar Corporation is recalling certain 2016–2023 motorhomes, including the 2016 London Aire and 2022–2023 models of Dutch Star, Mountain Aire, London Aire, and Essex. The pedestal mounting plate on these vehicles may be improperly welded, causing the plate to separate and the seat assembly to loosen or detach. These seat assemblies fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207 (Seating Systems) and number 210 (Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages).
A loose or detached seat assembly increases the risk of injury. Dealers will inspect for the missing weld and replace the pedestal free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 31, 2024.
Owners should contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153). Additional information is available at www.nhtsa.gov. Newmar's recall number for this campaign is 608 RSB.
