What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect involving a critical fuel system component with a serious potential consequence—fuel leaks creating increased fire risk. However, no injuries, deaths, or actual property damage have been reported. The rule specifies that risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported score at most 3.
Plain-English summary
Newmar Corporation is recalling certain 2017-2022 motorhomes, including the Mountain Aire, Dutch Star, Ventana, and New Aire models. Approximately 1,294 vehicles are affected. The issue involves the diesel fuel rail assembly, where a sealing washer may not seat correctly in the pilot bore holes.
When the sealing washer does not seat properly, the high-pressure fuel rail assembly can leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. No injuries or deaths have been reported related to this defect.
Affected owners should contact their Newmar dealer to have the fuel rail inspected and replaced free of charge. Interim notification letters were mailed to owners on July 16, 2021. Owners may also contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8000 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
