Subaru is recalling 2024 Impreza vehicles because the front driveshaft assembly may develop cracks and break, potentially causing loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in the front driveshaft assembly that can cause loss of drive power while driving or vehicle rollaway when parked, both of which increase crash risk. This meets the Severe classification for a structural vehicle defect per the rubric.
Plain-English summary
Subaru is recalling the 2024 Impreza due to a defect in the front driveshaft assembly. The outer race of the driveshaft assembly may develop cracks, potentially causing the driveshaft to break. This recall also affects 2024 Crosstrek and Forester models, as well as 2023 Forester and WRX vehicles. Approximately 4,701 vehicles are affected.
A broken driveshaft can cause loss of drive power while the vehicle is being driven. It can also cause the vehicle to roll away if parked without the parking brake engaged. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash.
Owners were notified by mail on January 8, 2024. Dealers will inspect and replace the left and right front driveshafts at no charge. Owners can contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) for more information.
