Subaru Ascent, Forester, and Crosstrek vehicles with incorrect weight labels
Subaru is recalling certain 2019–2026 Ascent, 2025–2026 Forester, and 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid vehicles due to incorrect Gross Axle Weight Rating labels, which may lead to vehicle overload and increased crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect (incorrect GAWR label on a vehicle frame component) that creates risk of harm (vehicle overload and crash risk); no injuries or illnesses are reported in the source, so the score does not exceed 3 per the rubric.
Plain-English summary
Subaru of America, Inc. is recalling certain 2019–2026 Ascent, 2025–2026 Forester and Forester Hybrid, and 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid vehicles. These vehicles were manufactured with an incorrect Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) on the certification label. The incorrect label may lead to an overloaded vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 110, "Tire selection and rims."
Subaru will mail a new certification label to owners at no cost. Owners may also choose to have a dealer install the new label at no cost. Letters informing owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed August 25, 2026. Additional letters will be mailed once the remedy is available.
Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's internal recall number is WRH-26.
