2023 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty rear axle shaft defect
Ford is recalling certain 2023 F-250 and F-350 Super Duty vehicles with single rear wheels because the left rear axle shaft may be improperly heat-treated and could break, potentially causing loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a structural vehicle defect (improperly heat-treated axle shaft) that meets the Severe threshold. The defect creates direct safety risk by potentially causing loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway, increasing crash risk, regardless of whether injuries have been reported to date.
Plain-English summary
Ford is recalling certain 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty and F-350 Super Duty vehicles equipped with single rear wheels and a 10.5-inch rear axle shaft.
The left rear axle shaft may have been improperly heat-treated during manufacturing and may break as a result.
If the rear axle shaft breaks, the vehicle may experience a loss of drive power or rollaway when placed in park. Either condition can increase the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the affected rear axle shaft at no cost. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 17, 2023. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
