2022–2023 Porsche 911 GT3 Rear Spoiler Control Software Error
A software error in the rear spoiler control unit may cause brake lights to activate simultaneously on 2022–2023 Porsche 911 GT3 vehicles, potentially confusing other drivers.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm scenario where improper brake light signaling may confuse other drivers and increase crash risk. No injuries or deaths have been reported. The hazard is real but the consequence is theoretical, placing this at the maximum for recalls with no reported harm.
Plain-English summary
Porsche is recalling certain 2022 and 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring vehicles due to a software error in the rear spoiler control unit. When the rear spoiler is manually deployed at speeds below 56 MPH, a software malfunction may cause both the vehicle's center high-mounted brake lights and the spoiler's brake lights to illuminate simultaneously.
This simultaneous activation violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 (Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment) and may confuse other drivers about the vehicle's true braking status, increasing the risk of a crash.
Approximately 700 vehicles are affected. Porsche dealers will reprogram the rear spoiler control unit at no cost to owners. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed on August 24, 2023. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
