2022 Ford Bronco Airbag Sensors May Not Secure Properly

Ford is recalling certain 2022 and 2021 Bronco vehicles because the side impact sensors may not be properly secured. This could cause airbags to deploy unintentionally or fail to deploy in a crash, increasing injury risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting airbag sensors. Improperly secured sensors could cause unintended airbag deployment or failure to deploy in a crash, significantly increasing injury risk. The rubric explicitly classifies structural vehicle defects as Severe.

Plain-English summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2022 Bronco vehicles, and this recall also affects some 2021 model-year Broncos. The right or left side impact sensors may not be properly secured to the vehicle.

An improperly secured side impact sensor may cause the airbags to deploy unintentionally, or to fail to deploy as intended. Either scenario increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Dealers will inspect the side impact sensor attachments and repair them as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on January 20, 2023. Owners should contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 to schedule a service appointment. You may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
