Ford vehicles recalled for damaged side impact airbag sensors
Ford is recalling certain 2022 and 2021 model vehicles due to damaged side impact airbag sensors that may fail to deploy properly in a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting critical side-impact safety systems. Damaged sensor modules prevent proper airbag deployment in crashes, violating Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and directly increasing injury risk to occupants.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2022 Ford Super Duty F-250 and F-350 trucks, as well as certain 2021 Ford F-150, Ford Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator vehicles. The driver and passenger front-door side impact pressure sensor modules may have been damaged during supplier assembly. When damaged, these sensors can prevent the side impact airbags from deploying properly during a crash.
This defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 214, which establishes requirements for side impact protection. An airbag that does not deploy properly during a crash increases the risk of injury to vehicle occupants in side-impact collisions.
Approximately 777 vehicles are affected by this recall.
Ford dealers will replace the driver and passenger front door side impact sensors free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on November 3, 2021. Vehicle owners should contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 to schedule replacement. Ford's recall campaign number is 21C26. Owners can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov for additional information.
