2025–2026 Ford Bronco Sport and Maverick Occupant Sensor Recall
Ford is recalling certain 2025–2026 Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles because the front passenger occupant classification sensor may fail to detect a passenger, risking failure of the airbag to deploy in a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle safety defect affecting airbag deployment, which directly impacts crash protection—a core safety system. The failure to detect passengers and deploy airbags as intended creates significant risk of injury in a crash scenario, meeting the criterion for Severe (score 4).
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2025 and 2026 model year Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles. The Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) in the front passenger seat area may fail to correctly detect the presence of an adult or child. This sensor is critical for proper airbag deployment in a crash.
When the OCS fails to detect a passenger, the front passenger airbag may not deploy as intended during a collision. This increases the risk of injury to the passenger. The vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
Owners will be notified by mail. Interim notification letters were sent on April 10, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated in November 2026. Ford will replace the passenger seat occupant classification sensor free of charge. Affected owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's internal recall number is 26C19.
