2022 Lincoln Navigator Headlight Control Software Defect Causes Light Failure
Ford is recalling certain 2022 Lincoln Navigator vehicles due to headlight control module software that may fail, causing side marker and daytime running lights to go dark. This increases crash risk from reduced visibility.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a critical safety system (exterior lighting) where a software defect may cause lights to fail, reducing visibility and increasing crash risk. Although no injuries or incidents have been reported, this meets the criterion of a risk-of-harm product defect without reported injury.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2022 Lincoln Navigator vehicles because a defect in the headlight control module software may cause the side marker and daytime running lights to fail. These vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 108 (Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment).
A loss of exterior lighting reduces visibility and increases the risk of a crash. The defect affects approximately 965 vehicles.
Dealers will repair affected vehicles by updating the headlight control module software and recalibrating the headlights at no charge to owners. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 13, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) for more information.
