2021-2022 Tesla Model X Side Curtain Air Bag Deployment Defect

Tesla is recalling certain 2021-2022 Model X vehicles due to a defect in the left or right front-row side curtain air bags that may not deploy properly when windows are lowered. Improper deployment increases the risk of injury during crashes.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting a critical occupant protection system. The side curtain air bags may fail to deploy when windows are lowered, preventing proper protection in crashes. Although no injuries have been reported, the defect affects a life-safety system whose failure can cause serious harm.
