2021-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L seat tether anchorage defect
Certain 2021-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles may have a missing weld in the child seat tether anchorage system. This could allow the tether to separate during a crash, increasing the risk of child injury.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect involving a critical child safety system. Although no injuries have been reported, the potential for child injury during a crash due to improper child restraint anchorage meets the criterion for High severity: risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles. The second-row seat back frame in these vehicles may have a missing weld from the seat back frame to the child seat tether anchorage point. These vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 225, which establishes requirements for child restraint anchorage systems.
If the weld is missing, the child seat tether may separate from the seat frame during a crash, reducing the effectiveness of the child restraint and increasing the risk of injury to a child occupant.
Approximately 4,586 vehicles are affected. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 7, 2022. Dealers will inspect the second-row seat back frame and replace it if necessary, at no charge to the owner. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall number Z24) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
