Ford Recalls Fusion, MKZ, and Mustang for Brake Pedal Bumper Defect
Ford is recalling 2014-2015 Fusion, Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 Mustang vehicles because brake pedal bumpers may corrode and separate, potentially causing brake light confusion or rollaway risks.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (brake pedal bumper separation) that can lead to rollaway incidents and increased crash risk, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2014-2015 Ford Fusion, 2014-2015 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 Ford Mustang vehicles. This recall affects vehicles originally sold or ever registered in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Hawaii. The recall involves approximately 199,085 vehicles.
The defect involves the brake pedal bumper, which can corrode and separate from the brake pedal due to exposure to high temperatures, high humidity, and salt air. A separated bumper can cause the brake lights to illuminate continuously, confusing other drivers and increasing crash risk. On automatic transmission vehicles, a missing bumper may allow the driver to shift out of "PARK" without depressing the brake, potentially causing the vehicle to roll away and increasing the risk of injury.
Dealers will replace the brake pedal bumpers and clutch pedal bumpers free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on March 4, 2022, and final owner notification letters were mailed on June 13, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
