Altec Recalls 2017-2021 Aerial Devices Due to Hydraulic Plumbing Defect
Altec Industries is recalling 2017-2021 aerial devices because incorrect hydraulic plumbing could allow booms to overextend, increasing the risk of tipping and injury.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (hydraulic plumbing) that could cause the device to tip over, resulting in significant injury risk, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects and significant injury reports.
Plain-English summary
Altec Industries, Inc. is recalling certain 2017-2021 AN67-E100, AA67-E100, AN67, AA67, and AN55-E88 aerial devices. The recall involves 150 units where the hydraulic plumbing to the lift cylinders of the lower and upper booms could be connected incorrectly.
This defect allows the boom to overextend. If the operator overextends the boom while using the material handling jib, the aerial device could tip over, increasing the risk of injury.
Altec will inspect and correct the plumbing as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on February 18, 2022. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
