2021 Mercedes-Benz GLB250 and AMG GLB35 airbag mounting defect
Mercedes-Benz is recalling certain 2021 GLB250 and AMG GLB35 vehicles because the driver-side window airbag may not be properly mounted to the A-pillar, which could prevent proper deployment during a crash.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a concrete safety defect—improper mounting of a critical safety component (driver-side window airbag) that could prevent proper deployment during a crash. The rubric criterion 'risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported' applies, as no crashes, injuries, or deaths are documented in the source text.
Plain-English summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is recalling certain 2021 GLB250 and AMG GLB35 vehicles. The driver-side window airbag may not have been mounted correctly to the lower area of the A-pillar. These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 226, which governs airbag ejection mitigation.
As a result, the driver-side window airbag may not function properly during a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the driver.
Dealers will inspect the mounting of the driver-side window airbag and repair it as necessary at no cost to owners. Owner notification letters were mailed in December 2021. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
