2021–2022 Heavy-Duty Trucks Recalled for Loose Tie Rod Assembly Components

What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a structural defect in the vehicle steering linkage system. Loose or broken tie rod ends can result in complete steering loss, which directly increases the risk of vehicle crashes. Per NHTSA criteria, structural vehicle defects qualify as Severe.
Plain-English summary
Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2021 and 2022 heavy-duty trucks, including Western Star 4700, 4900, and 5700 models, as well as Freightliner 114SD, 122SD, Business Class M2, Cascadia, and 108SD models, plus several Custom Chassis variants. The tie rod clamps on these vehicles may be loose, allowing the tie rod ends to loosen, break, or detach entirely.
When tie rod ends detach or break, the vehicle can lose steering control, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. This defect affects the steering linkage system, a critical component for vehicle safety.
