Motorhome wire harness may damage fuel pump and brake systems
Certain 2020-2021 Thor Motor Coach motorhomes may have a wire harness that contacts the frame, potentially damaging fuel pump and brake circuits and increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The source describes potential failure of critical vehicle safety systems (fuel pump circuit and anti-lock braking system) that could increase crash risk, but no injuries, deaths, or illnesses are reported. The hazard is theoretical (wire "may contact" frame; damage "could result" in stall). Per the rubric, a risk-of-harm product without reported injury scores as High (3).
Plain-English summary
Thor Motor Coach is recalling certain 2020-2021 Quantum, Chateau, and Four Winds motorhomes, and 2020 Vegas and Axis motorhomes built on Ford E-Series chassis. A wire harness located in the rear of these vehicles may contact the vehicle frame.
Contact between the wire harness and frame can damage two critical circuits: the fuel pump circuit and the anti-lock braking system (ABS) circuit. Damage to the fuel pump circuit could result in an unexpected engine stall. Damage to the ABS wiring can reduce ABS functionality and compromise roll stability control (RSC) functionality. These failures increase the risk of a crash.
A total of 34 vehicles are affected by this recall. Thor Motor Coach will notify owners, and Ford dealers will inspect the wire harness for damage. If no damage is found, dealers will apply anti-abrasion tape to protect the harness and verify clearance to surrounding components. If damage is detected, dealers will splice in new wire and apply protective tape. All services will be performed free of charge. Owners can contact Thor Motor Coach customer service at 1-877-855-2867 (reference number RC000189) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
