2021 Ford E-350 and E-450 wire harness may damage fuel pump and ABS
Ford is recalling 2021 E-350 and E-450 vehicles because a rear wire harness may contact the frame and damage circuits for the fuel pump and anti-lock braking system, potentially causing engine stall or loss of braking control.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This recall qualifies as Severe because it involves a structural vehicle defect (wire harness contacting frame) affecting critical safety systems including the fuel pump circuit and anti-lock braking system. Although no injuries have been reported, the defect can cause engine stall and loss of braking control, both of which significantly increase crash risk.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2021 E-350 and E-450 vehicles. The recall affects approximately 2,871 vehicles. A wire harness located in the rear of the vehicle may contact the vehicle's frame, causing damage to electrical circuits that support critical safety systems.
Damage to the fuel pump circuit can result in an unexpected engine stall while driving. Damage to the anti-lock braking system (ABS) wiring can reduce ABS functionality and disable the roll stability control (RSC) system. These failures increase the risk of a crash.
If you own a 2021 E-350 or E-450, contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 or visit your dealer. Ford will inspect the wire harness for damage at no cost. If damage is found, dealers will splice in new wire and apply protective anti-abrasion tape. If no damage is found, dealers will apply protective tape and verify clearance from surrounding components. The remedy began May 18, 2020.
