Plain-English summary

Marion Body Works Inc. is recalling certain 2018-2019 Spartan Gladiator and Metro Star emergency response chassis. The recall addresses a defect in the brake relay valve, which may have an air flow restriction. This issue can result in an extended stopping distance, causing the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, "Air Brake Systems."

If additional distance is needed to stop the vehicle, there is an increased risk of crash. The recall began on December 27, 2019.

Marion Body Works will notify owners, and Spartan dealers will inspect and replace the valve, as necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact Marion Body Works customer service at 1-715-754-5261 or Spartan customer service at 1-800-543-5008. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
