Spartan Gladiator and MetroStar Recalled for Park Brake Line Defect

Marion Body Works is recalling 2019-2020 Spartan Gladiator and MetroStar vehicles because the park brake control line may loosen, potentially causing sudden deceleration and increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (parking brake line) that can cause sudden deceleration and increase the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Marion Body Works Inc. is recalling certain 2019-2020 Spartan Gladiator and MetroStar Emergency Response chassis vehicles that were modified by the company. The recall addresses a defect where the park brake control line may loosen and possibly come out of the fitting while the vehicle is in motion.

If the air line comes out of the fitting while the vehicle is moving, the park brake can inadvertently be applied. This causes the vehicle to suddenly decelerate, which increases the risk of a crash.

Marion Body Works dealers will inspect and properly tighten the park brake control line free of charge. All vehicles will be repaired before being delivered to customers. Owners may contact Marion Body Works customer service at 1-715-754-5261 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
